It's true. Hollywood has officially run out ideas. There is nothing new to be made. The only thing that you can currently see at the theaters are either sequels or remakes. Yep, thats it. Nothing else.
And case in point, the remake of the 1976 thriller featuring the spawn of Satan... A Star Is Born with Barbara Streisand (which itself was a damn remake!) Seriously, the movie I'm talking about is The Omen. As if it wasnt bad enough that they had to originally ruin it by making, oh I don't know, sixteen sequels throughout the late 70s and early 80s, and even one just FIVE years ago, but now they have to remake it entirely. Why?
On the one hand why bother, but on the other... why bother. If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic. Just don't go! (Nobody gets that reference I'm sure)
So I saw the trailer for this wonderful new movie the other day. First, a remake, come on! But I've already pointed that out. Second, Julia Stiles? Julia Stiles?!? OK, now I am not complaining about Julia Stiles in general, just in this case. I have nothing against Julia Stiles. Julia Stiles is cute. She has a strangely endearing set of upper teeth. They look like a large set of parabolic dentures. Parabolic, that's a fancy word for really curvy for all you thesaurus-less people out there.
So, yes, Julia Stiles is easy on the eyes (well at least I think so) but is she right for this movie? No. She belongs in quirky teen comedies, sometimes romantic, usually loosely based on a play by Shakespeare, mostly co-starring some handsome black actor whom with she falls in love. Julia Stiles, your go-to-girl for a shocking black/white, love interest storyline. Julia "Jungle Fever" Stiles.
But also, how long has this movie been in the making. They probably made this movie when Julia Stiles was actually still popular. They just put it on the shelf until July 6, 2006. Oh yeah, baby! We just gotta have this movie drop on 6-6-06. That would be soooo cool. 666! Mark of the beast! Woo-yah! Natas! Those producers have just been waiting and waiting in order to seem so witty. No way did they NOT think this one through long before they even made this movie. Although, maybe it was just a happy accident. I mean they did remake The Omen with Julia Stiles, so how much thought could there have been.
