Bruce Campbell: All around go-to guy

I can think of only a few more enjoyable ways to spend a Friday off from work, than to head to downtown Royal Oak and began standing in line for a book signing and subsequent movie premiere, for and with Bruce Campbell at the Main Art Theatre. (You know it's "art-housy because of the "t-r-e".) If you don't know who I'm talking about, then you may want to stop reading now. You'll never know with just this. He's impossible to encapsulate, except for maybe with the title.

Okay, I'm being pretentious. Overall, Bruce Campbell is just fun. That's it. His books and movies are just that, fun. Yes, cheesy. Yes, "B-grade". Those are terms that certainly follow. But fun and enjoyable are too, and that is the most important.

Anyway, I could find no better way to spend my time, than to stand outside the Main Art Theatre in the humid, muggy air and blistering sun that was today. I had to turn at 90 degree angles, every five minutes, to give myself the slim chance of avoiding certain sunburn. I mean, you can see the picture. I'm very, very white, with swirling hues of pink. Most of the time, I might as well be standing ON the sun. All I'm saying is I burn easily. Most people are shocked. Besides that, good times. I pack into the theatre, buy some tickets for the upcoming show, and file through the halls and into the auditorium.

Now let me say, that many people need to learn the alphabet. We were separated into groups via letters. Now what comes after 'A'? 'B'! Good job! More people need to learn this concept. And may I say that Bruce Campbell is a very likeable guy. He plays up the smarmy, cocky bastard routine very well, but he does so with the skill of a master that keeps you at ease and assures you he's just joking. It's like that friend of yours who acts like a jerk sometimes, but you know he is just acting that way, and is really not like that. This makes it that much more funny.

After the signing, there was more standing in line outside again. Somehow we were relegated to the outdoors while they cleared out the auditorium before the start of the movie. I don't know what took so long, as I can't imagine there are too many logistical problems that could have arisen while moving the table and chair that Bruce Campbell used.

Returning to the theatre for the movie, there was the Q&A session with Bruce Campbell before the film. Herein, he offered up some humorous anecdotes, as celebrities usually do, and strangely enough at a Q&A, he answered questions. Altogether, very enjoyable evening, and what more can you ask for then that. Oh yeah, Ted Raimi was there too. And if you don't know who Bruce Campbell is, then I'm not even going to try you with Ted Raimi.
